last man standing

once a very crazy german man went to an island that had been evacuated due to an impending volcanic explosion. he found abandoned shoes, decomposing dogs, and the slow slinking stink of noxious gas leaking from cracked pieces of earth.
he also found this man, sleeping under a tree, with his cat.
thank you werner, and thank you unidentified cat man. i can only aspire to this.
skate-knife
my favorite way to hear music is either in motion or in like a dark snuggle sack. there are so many ways to move to music but after seeing this video, i'm definitely trying to listen on a skateboard, the downhill groove, with 11 good friends.
earlier i showed this to my friend raquel, and she emailed me this back, which i think sort of sums it up perfectly:
I wish I could physically slide like the kids in the video, but that's what my heart feels
thanks sara and ben and everyone else that was accidentally, simultaneously listening to this track yesterday!

it's friday.
my office just gave us free vegan pizza. (it turns out that vegan pizza doesn't fuck your stomach like ruinous melted cheese)
in a delightful turn of events, my internet doesn't work except for blogs and YOUTUBE
and everyone wants to get drunk soon
and someone bearded this way comes
and my boss left early
and my dress is purple
explosions of fortunate happiness

theremin: an electronic odyssey is the best movie i have ever seen
(since F is for Fake)
except this shit is not fake. do you like music? the KGB? ever wondered what the fuck brian wilson was doing in 1993? he's doing great, just hanging with the theremin. this movie is a documentary, romance, sitcom, thriller, it's everything you've ever seen. please see below for more details.

mikeT documentary
national hurricane center
last night i listened to a Geologist to talk about the earth's crust.

He said that future ruined cities in America no doubt include San Francisco, Oakland, and everything in Arizona. He said that it's tough in Haiti because structures that are hurricane resistant are not earthquake resistant, and vice versa. Then he talked about this magical, hurricane/earthquake resistant building in Miami which houses the National Hurricane Center. I got really excited imagining what this state of the art structure would look like

but really it just looks like Blair

the purple line

The story of the Purple Line is an amazing tale of local government and public interest groups, dragging feet and getting wrild. So, it looks like as of now this line will actually be a light rail, which is still a vast improvement. Also, check out these live chats with DDOT, great public service, really interesting to see where people's priorities are, particularly in regards to biking in DC.

sicksack
for the past few months ive been willfully neglecting my body, and as a result im super sick, the kind that like knocks you out at the knees - head swimmy, delirious, snot-sick.
i spent 4 hours in the clinic on wednesday, waiting to see a doctor, accumulating other sicknesses. there were some incredible people at the clinic - the bald intake man who i immediately developed a crush on, the little girl who was getting her pink, booger encrusted nose lovingly moisturized by her mom, and my favorite, this pair of like bay-ridge dudes who were complaining about the wait.
at one point one man left to see the doctor, and the other man began to work the crowd. he started talking about economic disparity and conspiracy theories. im a fucking sucker for conspiracy theory. after drawing me in he explained that tabloids were the last remaining truthful enterprises within journalism, and he asked me if my magazine was US weekly, and I said no, and he said it didn't matter, that it was lying to me, and then he told me and this other woman the story of his marriage. it went like this:
this man didn't go to the doctor for 30 years, but when he went, it was with the suspicion that his wife was poisoning him. he told the doctor, who said it was absurd. then he went back to the doctor, and she said that she'd never seen a man with more poison (arsenic) in his body. then he told his wife he hated her.
true story. make good choices out there.

california, tomorrow
my roommate is a singularly amazing human being. she is the type of human that i would love to be like but know i could never be, though i am still thankful to be the me that i am.
when i was younger and felt envious of someone, either their intellect or life station, i would definitely put on the pout like, whatever, i could be that too if i really tried. something that is great about getting older is recognizing that there really are things that we cannot be. and it's cool. we are who we are, designed for particular things, and i'm really into that.
in other news, i am going to california tomorrow night, for the first time ever.

can't even wait.

lordly

i've been researching methodology for calculating your center of gravity
Xcg = ∑xW/∑W to find the CG along the x-axis Ycg = ∑yW/∑W to find the CG along the y-axis
but stumbled upon this amazing diagram that is changing everything:
it's about lordosis, which is what i think i have, because brutus taught me how to balance a soda can on my butt while upright, and there is speculation that this evolutionary turn of events is especially helpful for pregnant upright bipeds. are enormous, luscious booties not only pleasing to look at but indicative of biological design to facilitate better pregnancy, and therefore is booty-worship culture actually evolutionarily perfect?
ahhh! this girl freaks me out! lordosis

stir the sea

The fluid dynamics of swimming jellyfish may stir Earth’s oceans with as much force as its wind and tides.
