gigantic

every 10 years or so a movie is released expressing the artfully weird - what it is to be authentically new yorkese but to also have been raised in the moneyed hamlets of the upper east or west sides and therefore wealthy beyond imagination but with ample time to nurse phobias, insecurities, or to perfect joint-rolling capabilities.

what i mean to say is, igby goes down seemed super-indulgent and moneyed and mean. a lot of folks i know like it, and i've tried, but i can't get away from the fact that none of the characters have any redeemable qualities, except maybe jeff goldblum. sike for life.

(goldblum pictured below, naked in a fabric store)

the reason i began this tangent is that last night i watched "gigantic" starring paul dano and zoey deschanel. here are some themes that this disorienting movie touched upon:

swimming rats
are we like swimming rats?
really wealthy families
bedding
chinese babies
zach galifinakis as a homeless man / late in the game embodiment of paul dano's inner turmoil specifically with sexual mishaps - in print this sounds kind of awesome but in real life it's not that awesome

perhaps this is an overarching bias against super rich people, but in general i don't really care for their bizzare, moneyed, faltering attempts to find love in between their dollars, does this make me heartless? and in general when i sign on for an adorable zoey movie i am looking for quirk and cute and a lot of zoey, not jesus christ has paul dano been beating himself up for years? did no one notice? and he was able to adopt a baby? FML.

good one gigantic, if 500 days of summer is bad i am blaming you.
